It’s no secret that I have an average, size 6 bottom half. And it’s also no secret that I’ve struggled for years trying to find jeans that flattered my curves. It took me years and years to embrace my thick thighs and my big butt…and to be honest I still have insecurities about it today (but, let’s save that for another real-talk blog post). Instead, I wanted to focus this entry on what I’ve learned about denim and the best jeans (in my opinion) for women with a thicker lower half!

Now, let me start with a disclaimer that every body and shape is different and what might work for me may not work for you. The best thing to do with how-to’s or blog posts like this is to try the tips out for yourself. Go to the mall, whip out this entry and try out each jean style! You only learn by trying!

1. Denim Culottes or Wide Leg Denim Pants – By far my favorite style of all are denim culottes or wide leg denim pants (which are the same thing as culottes, just to the floor). I prefer high waisted-styles like the one I’m wearing here from Urban Outfitters. The reason this style works so well is that the tightest part of the pant is right at your upper thigh. The pant goes straight down from there creating a straight line lengthening and slimming out your legs. Plus, the style is SO versatile…wear it with a blazer and heels for an office chic look.

2. Mom Jeans – Hated my men all over the world, mom jeans are my go-to daily denim. The high-waist lengths the appearance of legs and the relaxed fit is comfortable but not baggy or frumpy looking. Great to wear running errands with sneakers or in mules for lunch date!

3. Kick Flare Jeans – The kick-flare leg is a new one for me and I basically bought every option I could find from Urban Outfitters. Again, it’s a high-waist style that goes to your ankle but…there is a slight flare at the ankle creating balance between your upper thighs and hips.
